*This blog post was written in two parts, by both Nicola & Lindsay. We hope you enjoy reading it! Nicola’s bit is up first (incase you were wondering).

I sometimes think that every day should be International Women’s Day (IWD). After all, it’s basically about celebrating being a woman and the fabulous women that we know, love and are inspired by – and shouldn’t we do that every day?

It’s a fantastic day, and it serves to remind all of us, individuals, businesses, government and society that women are equal, empowered and can do anything.  Yet it needs to be more than just a token gesture with a hashtag – it means listening to our voices all year round, persisting and working to make our lives better and reminding ourselves every single day that we are bloody amazing, and we are proud.  So, remember to tell yourself and each other that – not just on March 8th, but all year round – and believe in it.

Things I’m proud of, both big and small

  • I’ve been running my own business for the past eighteen months, and even though it has moments of stress, worry and fear, I love it more than any job I’ve ever had – because I built it myself.
  • I’m bloody good at what I do.
  • I get to work with my awesome sister Lindsay every day, who inspires me when I’m having a down moment and sends me Beyonce gifs when I need a kick up the arse
  • At the age of 36 and a half, (which once upon a time I though was ancient), I’m the fittest and happiest that I’ve ever been – both mentally and physically.
  • I own my own flat and it’s full of awesome yellow things.
  • I made this skull cake (see below).
  • I give zero fucks about dressing up and wearing high heels – I’ve finally reached a point in my life where I don’t care what other people think about my outfit.
  • I have a small group of lovely friends who make me very happy.
  • I can deliver an elevator pitch even though I find it terrifying.
  • I can do a big box jump.

When Nicola and I started to chat about International Women’s Day, and campaign planning for our clients, the conversation turned to how Yellow Bird Digital could celebrate the achievements of all the amazing woman we know and work with. But as Nicola says, every day should be International Women’s Day. We’re not loud or brashy agency, and the ‘girl boss’ chat tends to make us cringe, but we realised that we tend to be guilty of getting caught up in the day to day work of our clients, rather than being proud of shouting about who we are – both personally and professionally. So, here’s to showing yourself a bit of self-love and remembering that you are awesome!

Originally, we decided to share who each of our inspirational women are, but I want to give a wee shout out on my part of the blog to Nicola; business partner, sister and best friend. We often get asked what it’s like to work with each other, but I can honestly say I love it! More than 8 months ago, Nicola gave me the opportunity to join the business and for that I will forever be grateful, and there’s been no major fall outs for those wondering! She works her butt off to grow the brand, make connections, goes above and beyond for clients and inspires me daily with her knowledge, dedication and motivation. Personally, Nicola makes me laugh (or maybe it’s our weird sister humour), she’s the Grace to my Frankie and makes a mean margarita. Although it’s totally not awkward at all when we turn up wearing the same thing…

While I can come across Chatty Cathy, I need to stop feeling so embarrassed talking about myself and be more proud of what I can do! So while on here, I’m going to do a wee plug. I am running the Stirling marathon on 26th April, my biggest race to date. I’m pushing myself out my comfort zone and with less than 8 weeks to go, I need to continue to be push my training. Although, I’m writing this now as I’m struck down with the cold – boo! I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself to finish on a certain time to finish but completing it will be a massive achievement for me (and my husband who’s joining me), and hopefully I can raise a lot of money along the way. Stay tuned for updates!

So our wee reminder to you on IWD, that you might not have to look too far for an amazing, kick ass woman!
