But don’t think you really need it? hmm… why should you pay someone else to do your digital marketing? You can probably just do it yourself, right? I mean – we all know how to apply Instagram filters, can definitely write some web copy with the help of our spell checker, and can probably figure out how to work Mailchimp with the help of a few video tutorials, right?

It doesn’t always come easy, admitting that you can’t do everything yourself, and that you need a bit of help and guidance. Nicola spent her first year running Yellow Bird Digital doing my own finances, sending invoices, tracking my sales and spending and doing my own dreaded tax return. Then year two came along, we grew by one, and all of a sudden, she was looking at company shares, double the tax returns and being VAT registered. I was definitely in over my head! Terrified of making mistakes and being fined by HMRC and spending far too long reading very boring online articles about deductible expenses. Then along came our accountant Mary, a calculator-wielding lifesaver who keeps us on track and does the stuff that Nicola found difficult and definitely didn’t enjoy. So, we can now use that saved time to get out there and make my business better, do more for our clients and hopefully make us more money. No brainer, right? The only regret was that we didn’t do it sooner.

In our personal lives, we spend money on things that professionals can do for us better than we could do ourselves. We pay everyone from hairdressers and beauticians, to baristas and chefs, because they have skills and tools that we don’t. So why shouldn’t we do the same for our businesses?
